War-affected Farah women want end to bloodshed

FARAH (Pajhwok): The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on Monday launched a two-day workshop and media conference on womeninfo-icon’s role in the peace process and their economic rights in western Farah province.

A statement from IDLG said the workshop was being attended by 153 war-affected women from Farah City and 10 districts.

The participants called on the warring sides to stop fighting in order no more blood and tears were shed.

Khushal Noori, one of the trainers at the workshop said, that the aim of the workshop was to discuss the role of women, aspirations and concerns in the ongoing peace process and to increase their business and educationinfo-icon capacity.

Farah Governor Maj. Gen. Taj Mohammad Jahid told the workshop that the Afghan women wanted their rights within the framework of Islam, applicable laws and national traditions.

"Islam has given women the freedom to work and study and this is the inalienable right of Afghan women," he added.

"The war is taking away our husbands and our hearts. I call on all parties involved to stop shedding our blood and tears for God's sake," said Shagufta Aryin, a participant from Purchaman district.

NafisaRahmani, a resident of PushtKoh district, called on militants to respect the rights of Afghan women.

She called on female members of the Afghan government's peace delegation to strongly support their work, healthinfo-icon, education and values.
