Sugar, flour prices down, diesel & gold up

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar and flour decreased while that of diesel and gold increased during the outgoing week in capital Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Food Traders Union Head, Fazal Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of 49 kilograms of flour decreased from 1,300 afghanis to 1,250 afghanis and 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar from 2,450 afghanis to 2,400 afghanis this week.

However, he said 16 liters of Shahista ghee cost 1,070afs and 49kg of Pakistani rice 1,550afs, the same prices as of last week’s.

A tea wholesaler in Mandavi market of Kabul said a kilogram of Madina green tea cost 240afs and the same quantity of African black tea 260afs.

But a retailer in Karta-i-Naw area of Kabul, Abdul Manan, sold a 49kg bag of flour for 1,300afs, a 59-kg sack of sugar for 2,450afs and a 24.5-kg bag of rice for 1,800afs.

He sold a 16-liter tin of Shahista ghee for 1,150afs, a kilo of African black tea for 280afs and the same quantity of Indonesian green tea for 260afs -- higher than wholesale prices.

A filling station worker in Wazirabad locality, Abdul Hadi said that the price of one liter diesel was jumped from 47afs to 49afs while the same quantity of petrol cost 48afs. He linked the hike in diesel price to its value in worldinfo-icon markets.

Hussain Ali, a liquefied gas seller in Taimani neighborhood, said the rate of one kg of gas was 65afs, the same rate of last week.

But Ahmad Salim, a gas seller in Pul Padshah area said that a kilogram of the commodity cost 70afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area of Kabul, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold stood at 2,300afs while the same amount of Russian variety increased from 1,800afs to 1,900afs.

According to Ahmad Shah, a money changer in Sara-I-Shahzada, buying rate of one US dollar stood at 66.16afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 624afs. Last week's exchange value of the dollar stood at 65.90afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 622afs.
