73 Afghan children return from treatment in Germany

KABUL (Pajhwok): Seventy-three Afghan children returned on Sunday from Germany after their treatment there for severe burns and dengue fever, officials said.

Hassan Bano Ghazanfar, acting head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, told a meeting in this regard today that the children had been sent to Germany with support of the German Peace Village in cooperation with the Afghan Red Crescent Society to Germany for their treatment six months ago.

She said the German Peace Village had been supporting the Afghan Red Crescent Society since 1990 for treatment of severe burns or dengue fever. So far, 4,165 Afghan children have received treatment, she added.

Mohammad Salim Bahramand, in charge of health affairs of Afghan Red Crescent Society said that the process was still ongoing and 100 children would be treated annually.

Maazama, 10, who had dengue fever was walking with the help of a stick and returned from Germany. She said she would get sad on seeing other girls playing.

She seemed happy and said her health had improved and she would walk without the help of a walking stick after some time.

A resident of Tanai district of Khost province, Maazama thanked the Afghan Red Crescent Society and German Peace Village for helping children like her in their treatment.

Other children who returned from Germany after their treatment were also happy and thanked organizations who helped them in their health’s recovery.
