Female journalists want representation in peace talks
KABUL (Pajhwok): Some female journalist on Saturday demanded their representation in peace talks with the Taliban
.
Wahida Faizi, Gender Director of the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), while addressing a gathering here said: “Women journalists should get together in order to have a representative in the delegation for talks with the Taliban.”
She said that Afghan women journalists would introduce their representative for upcoming peace talks.
Faizi said there are different institutions advocating for women rights, but there is no coordination among them.
The United States and the Taliban signed the Afghanistan-US Joint Statement for Peace in Doha, Qatar, last week.
Under the deal, all US troops would withdraw from Afghanistan in 14 months, under the condition that the Taliban break with al Qaeda, the Islamic State and other terrorist groups.
The deal also requires that intra-Afghan negotiations between the Taliban and the Afghan government over power sharing take place and that a lasting cease-fire be preserved.
The deal has since then been violated, following new fighting between the Taliban, Afghan security forces and the US army.
