Afghan refugees in Peshawar receive cash aid
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Coronavirus-impacted Afghanis refugee families in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have received cash assistance.
The Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (Safron) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) delivered emergency cash assistance to the most vulnerable refugee families.
An official statement said the first distribution was carried out at the Chamkani post office in Peshawar. Bernard Inkoom, head of UNHCR sub-office in Peshawar, and the deputy director of the Afghan Ministry for Refugees attended a cash distribution ceremony here.
Zaheerullah Khattak, the deputy postmaster general and officials of the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees were also in attendance.
Inkoom told the participants the socio-economic condition of refugees had been significantly impacted by Covid-19. The assistance would reach those most affected by the economic shocks.
About 36,000 families will be the initial beneficiaries of this emergency cash assistance programme through the Pakistan Post.
