27 militants killed in Kandahar clash, airstrike

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Twenty-seven militants and two policemen have been killed in face to face fighting and an airstrike in the Marouf district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Friday.

Police Chief Gen. Tadin Khan said the Talibaninfo-icon stormed police check-posts in the Toghrai locality on Thursday night which resulted in heavy clash that lasted for hours.

He said seven Taliban were killed and eleven others injured in face to face fighting while 20 more were killed in the US forces airstrike.

Tadin Khan said two policemen were killed and six others injured in the Taliban attack.

He said a Humvee vehicle, some weapons and mines were recovered from the Taliban. The Taliban have not commented about the incident.

Marouf district is situated 190 kilometres from Kandahar City and shared 155 kilometres of Durand Lineinfo-icon with Pakistaninfo-icon.
