Aug 05, 2020 - 16:11

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance's office director and the director of state-owned companies have been fired, referred to court and put on no-fly list.

President Ashraf Ghani also ordered the dissolution of the Dagma Metal Sales Committee and judicial inquiry of its executive board and the chairman of the executive board of the committee and officials involved in the process.

The Dagma Metals Sales Committee is made up of representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Economy, Trade and Mines and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The committee bids state-owned scrap metals and buys iron smelters under a special approach.

A letter sent to the Attorney General's Office by the Presidential Palace on August 2, a copy of which is received by Pajhwok Afghan News, said that President Ashraf Ghani received a report from a joint delegation on the sale of Dagma metals.

After the meeting, SajidTaqwa, director of the Ministry of Finance's office and ShafiqullahShahrani, director of state-owned companies, were fired and referred to the prosecutor's office.

The letter said that the Attorney General's Office should also ban the two from leaving the country and their cases should be sent to court immediately.

The process of transferring and selling scrap metal should be canceled, as well as other related agreements and the Dagma Metals Sales Committee and its executive board should also be disbanded, the source said.

It added, the legal advisory of the Presidential Palace, with the help of the Investment Facilitation Unit, should revise the policy on the sale of dagma metals and submit another comprehensive plan to the High economic Council.

The chairman of the executive committee of the Dagma Metals Sales body and relevant officials of security organs involved in the process should be brought under judicial scrutiny.

A spokesman for the Finance Ministry Shamroz Khan Masjidi said the president's office had conducted an investigation into the matter, which had now been referred to the attorney general's office.

Spokesman for the Attorney General's Office, Jamshid Rasooli, told Pajhwok Afghan News the matter reached them for investigation a few days ago.

He said the report the president reviewed had reached the Attorney General's Office. After a review, the Attorney General's Office handed over the matter to the Special Prosecutor's Office.

The case is under investigation and the two have been banned from leaving the country by the Attorney General's Office.
