Gold, sugar, ghee prices jump in Kabul markets

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar, gold and ghee increased in Kabul during the outgoing week as compared to last week’s while the rates of other essential items remained stable.

Omaid Hassan, a wholesaler at Mandawi market, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the price of a 49-kg sack of Kazakh flour decreased from 1,700afs to 1,670afs. He said the rate of flour also decreased in Kazakhstan markets.

He said the prices of a 16-liter tin of Ghorshid ghee increased from 1,428 afs to 1,540 afs and 50 kilograms of Pakistaninfo-icon sugar from 2,400 to 2,450 afs.

He added prices of other items remained stable as 24 kilograms of Pakistan rice cost 2,400afs, one kg of Indonesian green team accounted for 320afs and the same amount of African black team cost 350afs.

Mohammad Yousaf, a grocery store owner in Taimani area of Kabul, said the prices of some items remained stable as 49-kg Kazakh flour sold for 1,700afs, 49-kg sugar for 2,500afs, 24-kg Pakistani rice 2,500afs, 16-kg Khorshid cooking oil for 1,600afs.

He sold one kilogram of green Indonesian tea for 340 afs and the same amount of African black tea for 360 afs.

Gold price also goes up

Mohammad Javed, a jeweler at Lesa-i-Maryam, said one gram of Arabian gold price increased from 3,550 to 3750afs and the same quantity of the Russian variety from 3,150 to 3,230afs.

Fuel price remains unchanged

Ahmad Javed, a worker at Wazirabad fuel station, said one liter of petrol was sold for 35afs and the same quantity of diesel 37afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta area, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity was 45afs—same as last week’s rate.


Mohammad Hasan Sadiqi, a moneychanger at Sara-i-Shahzad market, said one US dollar was accounted for 77.15afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees exchanged for 454afs.

Last week, one US dollar was equal to 77afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees to 459 afghanis.
