Cricket: Kabul Eagles win Shpageeza League title

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Kabul Eagles defeated defending champions Mis Ainak Knights in the final of the Shpageeza League at the Kabul international cricket stadium on Wednesday and won the title.

The Etisalat4GSCL2020 tournament featuring six teams commenced on September 6 and the final was played today (Wednesday).

The participating teams included Mis Ainak Knights, Band-e-Amir Dragons, Amo Sharks, Speen Ghar Tigers, Kabul Eagles, and Boost Defenders. The 15 league matches followed by playoffs comprising two qualifiers and an eliminator.

Mis Ainak, which won the toss in the final game, chose to bowl first and brought the Kabul Eagles under immense pressure by taking wickets in a successive fashion.

The Eagles managed to score 139 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs game and set the Knights 140 runs target. For the Eagles, Yunus Ahmadzai contributed 36 runs, Samiullah Shinwari 32 and Nangyali Kharoti 22.

Dawlat Zadran took three wickets, Shahpur Zadran and Noor Mohammad shared two scalps each for the Mis Ainak side.

Chasing the target, Mis Ainak lost early wickets and all were bundled out for 130 runs, nine short of the target. Nijat Massoud and Nangyali Kharoti clinched two wickets each, Hasibullah, Azmatullah Omarzai and Zia Rahman took one wicket each.

Kharoti was declared the man of the match.

Top run scorer of the tournament was Osman Ghani for Band-i-Amir with 355 runs followed by Mis Ainak player Hashmatullah Shaheedi with 339.
