Environmental investigative reporting workshop concludes

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A five-day "Environmental Investigative Reporting workshop ended here on Thursday, in which 25 journalists participated.

Zia-u-Din, representative of Mediothek Eco Journalists Network,  told Pajhwok Afghan News the purpose of the workshop was to share environmental issues with journalists.

He believed the workshop would certainly be effective in increasing professional knowledge related to environmental protection, establishing relations and coordination between institutions concerned and experts.

He said journalists had an important role to play in protecting the environmentinfo-icon and hoped the journalists of the Environmental Network would be able to select important topics and publish reports on the issue to help solve environmental challenges.

The five-day training program was attended by 25 journalists from different media outlets in the country and from eight provinces and were trained by environmentalists.

Matin Amiri, one of the participants, said they learned useful information on environmental issues, ethics and responsibilities which would have a positive impact on their professional work in future.

He said in future numerous workshops should be held for journalists on the importance of environmental issues and this was the first time they participated in such a program. He said would try to cover more environmental issues in the future.

Abdul Basit Karokhel, a member of the Environmental Reporters Network, said, every citizen had a responsibility to protect the environment and all people in the country must play an active role in this regard.

Karokhel called the training a good opportunity for journalists and expressed hope that the five-day training program would enable journalists to publish research reports in the field of environmental protection and that fundamental changes will take place in people's lives.

He added a healthy environment was key to a healthy life and paying attention to environment meant paying attention to life.
