Rice, gold prices up in Kabul markets

 KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The prices of cooking oil, sugar and tea declined but that of rice, flour and gold jumped in Kabul markets during the outgoing week, sources said on Saturday.

Zamrai Safi, Food Dealers Association head, said the whole sale price of a 16-kg Malaysian cooking oil tin declined from 1,450afs to 1,310afs, a 50kg bag of sugar from 2,200 to 2080 afs, one kg of Indonesian green tea from 300afs to 290afs, and the same amount of African black tea from 300 afs to 290 afs.

The up and down in prices of the mentioned items depended on their rates in countries from where they were being imported, he added.

He said the whole sale price of a 24-kilogram bag of high quality Pakistani rice went up from 2,150 last week price to 2,300 and a 49kg sack of Kazakh flour from 1,650 afs to 1,700afs.

According to Safi, the prices of flour and rice went up in Pakistani and Kazakh markets.

Mohammad Omaid Hassian at Mandawi market sold 49-kg sack of Kazakh flour for 1,750afs, 24kg bag of Pakistani rice for 2,400, 49-kg Indian sugar for 2,150afs, 16-kg Malaysian cooking oil for 1,350afs, one kg of Indonesian green tea for 320afs, and the same amount of African black tea for 320afs.

Gold price down this week

Mohammad Javed, a jeweler at Layci-i-Maryam, said one gram of Arabian gold price increased from 3,600afs to 3,700afs and the same quantity of the Russian variety from 3,000 to 3,100afs. He linked the increase in gold prices to international market trends.

No change in fuel prices

Ahmad Javed, a worker at Wazirabad fuel station, said one liter of petrol was sold for 35afs and the same quantity of diesel for 36afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta area, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity was 50afs—same as last week’s rate.


Haji Hussain Malik, a moneychanger at Sara-i-Shahzad market, told Pajhwok Afghan News 76.70afs equaled one US dollar while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 467afs on Saturday.
