Wolesi Jirga strongly defends republic system
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga
or lower house of the parliament on Wednesday strongly defended the republic system and said no one would be allowed to threaten the system.
A statement attributed to Wolesi Jirga Secretary Qader Zazai said that the Wolesi Jirga was a vital pillar of the republic system and its members were elected through public vote, therefore it strongly defended the republic system for the honor of public mandate.
It said in the past, some regional and international forces for their political advantages and sometimes as a result of internal war, the national interest of Afghanistan was undermined.
The statement said the country's national security and defense forces advocated a just cause and no deal on the future of national institutions was acceptable to the Afghan people and their representatives.
No attempts to overthrow the regime under the pretext of peace talks should be made instead the emphasis should be on talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government to strengthen the system.
The statement urged preservation and consolidation of the achievements of the past 19 years.
“We call on the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to strongly defend these achievements and rights in the ongoing peace talks. Because this is the demand of the people and the people stand by us.”
Presidential Spokesperson Sediq Sediqi welcomed the Wolesi Jirga statement in the defence of the republic and said without any doubt, the statement reflected sentiments of lawmakers regarding national interest, reconciliation and the will of the people.
