War victims central point in peace talks: Stanekzai

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Afghan peace negotiating team head Masoum Stanekzai on Tuesday said victims of the war will be a central point in the peace talks in terms of responsibility and international experience showed unilateral peace caused most damage to the victims of war.

Stanekzai made the remarks during a video conference with the ongoing conflict’s victims where representatives from different walks of life were also present.

“Peace can bring change in our lives and war hurts us even more, stop war, we are tired of war, we want peace,” said Huma Azizi, a war victim who attended the conference. She urged victims’ say in the peace process.

Nada-ul-Haq Shamalzai, the Martyrs families’ association head, told the meeting that he had not been able to take part in his father’s and uncle’s funeral ceremonies due to insecurity in their area.

He said, “The current situation is no longer tolerable, we urge the peace negotiating team to work for peace and also call on the Talibaninfo-icon to pursue their interests in peace.”

Masoum Safi, the Martyrs and Disabled overall council head, said there was a great opportunity for peace and the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon were also hopeful for lasting peace in the country.”

According to him, the achievements of the past years were the result of the blood of the victims of the war and must be protected.

He said they wanted lasting peace that paves the ground for real justice and compensation.

Addressing the online video conference, the Afghan peace negotiating team head Mohammad Masoum Stanekzai said his team had a good understanding of worldinfo-icon’s peace experience, the 40-year-old conflict and previous peace efforts.

He said the peace process should undoubtedly be sacrifice-oriented. He further said their main goal was to end the ongoing conflict and bloodshed in Afghanistan, but peace must be based on justice and all parties must feel winners.

Stanekzai said, “The views of the victims of the war will help us play a central role while making plan for peace negotiations with the other side.”

According to him, the vision of the negotiating team of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a just peace that all can enjoy and all the victims must be deeply addressed.

Maulviinfo-icon Attaullah Ludin, a member of the Afghan government peace negotiating team, told the meeting that the ongoing terrible war should be ended.

“We will defend the victims of war on every relevant agenda of the peace talks and respect their rights. We will pave the way for a justiciable peace in Afghanistan”, he added.”
