Captured rare birds released into Jawzjan wild

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The Department of Environmentinfo-icon Protection on Thursday said it released 52 rare birds into the wild in northern Jawzan province after preventing their smuggling.

Khojasteh Qayam Talash, director of environment protection, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a person was reported to security forces and his shop closed over caging and trafficking of the birds.

He said 52 various types of birds were confiscated from a resident in Shiberghan in cooperation with security forces and were released into the wild in presence of a delegation comprising officials of relevant government departments on Tuesday.

He added the birds belonged to Jawzjan province inhibiting in western and eastern parts of the province and they had been probably captured by a group of individuals.

He called caging, smuggling and trafficking of wild birds as a betrayal of the nature.

He added the Dashti Laila area of the province would be declared a protected area due to the existence of various rare and endangered animals.

Meanwhile, Jawzjan police chief Lt. Col. Abdul Wahed Wajdan told Pajhwok Afghan News they were coordinating with the Environment Protection Agency to prevent the sale and trafficking of rare birds.

He added people were not allowed to seize or sell wild birds.
