Kabul gathering buries symbolic war coffin
KABUL (Pajhwok): Some civil society
representative, religious scholars, disabled persons and family members of war victims on Saturday buried a symbolic coffin of war in Kabul and demanded durable peace and security in the country.
The participants said they were against interference of any foreign country and asked the Taliban to agree to ceasefire and stop fighting.
Maulvi Abdul Basir Sediqi, a religious scholar, said: “Both the conflicting sides are Muslim. It will be better to end the war, we ask both sides to have mercy on its people and stop fighting.”
Laeq Shah Zadran, acting secretary of Youth Affairs, told the Taliban to end the 40 years of war as people sacrificed on both sides were Afghans.
“If peace talks are held inside the country and foreign interference is stopped, we can reach peace. This country is our shared property, the Taliban should also show flexibility like the government did.”
Other participants also stressed on the need of ending the ongoing war and demanded ceasefire.
The gathering passed a resolution that demanded protection of the past 20 years of achievements and an immediate ceasefire.
