PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar arrived in Islamabad on Monday on a three-day visit to Pakistaninfo-icon.

The veteran jihadi leader will meet President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan besides addressing an Islamabad-based think-tank.

Hekmatyar is also scheduled to meet Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

The Foreign Office said: “Hekmatyar’s visit will provide an opportunity for an exchange of views on the Afghan peace process and strengthening of Pakistan-Afghan relations.”

A statement from FO said Pakistan attached great importance to its fraternal relations with Afghanistan rooted in shared history, faith, culture, values and traditions.

Pakistan has consistently supported an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

In touch with President Ashraf Ghani and his government, Pakistan recently invited Dr Abdullah and had a useful exchange of views with him about the peace process and bilateral relations.

“Now we will be hosting Gulbadin Hekmatyar, who hails from another leading Afghan party Hezb-i-Islami,” said the Pakistani ambassador to Afghanistan.
