3 district courts operate in Jalalabad due to insecurity

Oct 20, 2020 - 17:00

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The primary courts of three districts have been functioning in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, of eastern Nangarhar province due to insecurity, an official said on Tuesday.

Nangarhar Appellant Court head Mufti Mohammad Wazir during an exclusive chat with Pajhwok Afghan News said that judges could not travel to Pachiragam, Hesarak and Sherzad districts due to security issues, therefore they had established their offices in Jalalabad.

He, however, said that security situation in Nangarhar has improved compared to the past as judges and prosecutors faced no problem in travelling to 20 other districts of the province.

“Three primary courts  of Hesarak, Sherzad and Pachiragam are still functioning in Jalalabad because its officials cannot travel to these areas due to security concerns.”

He did not reject the fact that some people still referred their cases to militants in far-flung areas, adding that these areas were in Talibaninfo-icon’s control and government judges could not travel there.

According to Wazir, the lack of womeninfo-icon judges in Nangarhar courts is an issue for which the government is taking steps.

The process of appointment of two women judges has been finalized and they would soon start their work.

He acknowledged the delay in deciding some criminal cases, saying the issue was directly linked to them and asked the Attorney Appellant Court to address it.
