Afghan diplomat suggests opening of KMU campus in Kabul

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been urged to open a sub-campus of the Khyber Medical University in Kabulinfo-icon to facilitate Afghan students.

Afghan Consul General Najibullah Ahmadzai issued the call during a meeting with KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq in Peshawar on Tuesday.

While welcoming the proposal from the Afghan diplomat, the KMU vice-chancellor assured all-out support for setting up a sub-campus in Kabul.

Prof. Zia said he was aware of the issues facing the Afghans studying in various fields of medical sciences in the varsity’s constituent colleges and institutes.

“At present, 78 Afghan students are studying in the constituent institutes of KMU on the special directives of Prime Minister of Pakistaninfo-icon Imran Khan,” he added.

Besides tuition fees in the fields of MBBS, BDS, physiotherapy, nursing, paramedical sciences and basic medical sciences, each Afghan student is paid Rs238, 000 annually.

The payments are made under the Allama Iqbal Scholarship scheme, sponsored by the Higher Educationinfo-icon Commission, in the form of hostel, food, books and stationery expenses.

The vice-chancellor said besides Masters, MPhil and PhD in public healthinfo-icon, basic medical sciences and medical education, KMU was offering bachelor programmes in MBBS, BDS, nursing, physiotherapy and paramedical sciences.
