KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani’s Special Envoy for Pakistaninfo-icon Omar Daudzai has said that Pakistani authorities had assured him of ceasefire in Afghanistaninfo-icon later this year.

Talking with BBC, Daudzai said Pakistan still maintained influence on the Talibaninfo-icon and that Kabul acknowledged the fact that Islamabad forced the Afghan rebels to talk to the US.

He said Afghanistan expected Pakistan to take immediate steps for permanent ceasefire in Afghanistan.

“In informal meetings I had with Pakistani authorities, I was assured that until the end of this year, there will be ceasefire in Afghanistan,” he said.

Daudzai, however, did not say which Pakistan official or authority provided him assurances regarding ceasefire.

He added Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan will be visiting Kabul later this year and during his visit, both sides would discuss a range of issues, including ceasefire.

He added Kabul wanted Islamabad to support ceasefire and Islamic Republic System as part of peace talks.
