3 policemen killed, 2 wounded in Herat blast

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Three policemen were killed and two others wounded as a result of an explosion in western Herat province on Sunday morning, an official said.

Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman for the Public Health Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast took place in the Payan Aab area of Herat City this morning.

He said three bodies and two injured people had been brought to the hospital from the blast site.

Police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada confirmed the blast took place at a security check-post at around 6:00am. Three policemen were killed and two others, including a civilian, wounded.

He did not provide details about the nature of the blast, saying an investigation was underway. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
