Repair work on historic sites underway countrywide

KABULinfo-icon (Pajwhok): The Presidential Palace’s National Development Corporation (NDC) says damaged historic sites are being repaired countrywide at a cost of around two billion afghanis.

Mohammad Mustafa Naveed, NDC spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that historic sites and monuments represented civilization of humans and identity of nations in the history.

He said repair, reconstructioninfo-icon and maintenance of historical sites was one of NDC projects, which was underway in coordination with relevant provincial organs.

Naveed said repairing of historic sites was different from other construction projects and it required special care and protection.

NDC will repair 28 ancient areas across the country on a cost of 1.93 billion afghanis, he added.

“These sites include Kabul High Castle on Kolola Pushta Hill of Kabul city which was built around 1873”, he added.

Takht-e-Astalif Hotel, Tajbig Palace, Bagh-e-Bala Palace in Paghman district of Kabul, Shah Du Shamshira Mosqueinfo-icon, Rawza Shrine in Mazar-e-Sharif city, Amanullah Khan Palace in Ghazni province, historical warehouses in Herat, Takht-e-Rustam in Samangan and Chagni Castle in Nimroz province were among these sites, he added.

Naveed said many other historical sites in the mentioned areas and in Helmand, Faryab, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces were also in the repairing program.

These historical areas would be repaired in different phases and some of them would be completed in near future, he concluded.
