2 soldiers killed, 8 wounded in Kunduz attack

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Two security personnel were killed and eight others wounded as a car bombing struck a border police base in the Imaminfo-icon Sahib district of northern Kunduz province on Tuesday morning.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives-packed vehicle struck the border police base at around 7:30am.

Ismatullah Murad, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the incident and said two security personnel were killed and eight others wounded.

“The militants wanted to capture the district but could not succeed in their designs due to strong resistance from security forces,” he added.

Muradi claimed six insurgents were also killed in the ensuing clash and their weapons captured by the security forces.

He said a number of residents had suffered financial losses due to the incident. Governor Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal has directed the authorities to help the affected people.

Mohammad Yousaf Ayubi, the provincial council chairman, said that the car bombing resulted in shattering windowpanes in nearby houses and financial losses to some people.

Ayubi added four security personnel were killed and 12 others wounded. The Talibaninfo-icon gave said nothing about the attack yet.
