Ulema seek end to war, killing of innocents
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Religious scholars of the eastern zone on Thursday said killing innocent people was against Islamic principles and urged the Taliban to bring the ongoing conflict to an end.
Around a thousand of religious scholars gathered in Shirzai Stadium in Jalalabad, the provincial capital, and welcomed the ongoing peace negotiations in Doha.
Besides men scholars, a number of women religious scholars from Laghman and Kunar provinces, were took part in the gathering.
They condemned Monday’s attack on the Kabul University and termed it on an attack on education
and an act of ignorant people.
Ziaur Rahmanullah Yar, a religious scholar, said they organized the gathering to call for an end to the war and to welcome the ongoing peace talks in Doha.
He said, “Attacking educational centers is the act of killers and it was totally against Islam and those committing such acts are not Muslims at all.”
Sayedullah Hanif, another religious scholar from Kunar, also condemned the attack on the university, urging the government to pay more pay attention to Islamic centers across the country.
A number of other religious scholars expressed similar views and urged the Afghan government and the Taliban to declare truce for lasting peace in Afghanistan.
