Herat prosecutor gunned down; attackers flee

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a prosecutor in western Herat province on Sunday morning, an official said.

Police chief Atiqullah Wasiq told Pajhwok Afghan News Abdul Sami Rahmati was gunned down on his way to office from home.

He said the gunmen on a motorcycle managed to flee the area but police were investigating the murder in the 12^th police district of Herat City.

Meanwhile, relatives of the slain prosecutor said Rahmati had always fought against injustice.

Recent killings and armed robberies in the western province have triggered concerns mong residents.
