1 student killed, 6 injured in blast outside Wardak university

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): At least one student was killed and six others wounded in a bomb blast outside a private university in the capital of central Maidan Wardak province on Monday, an official said.

Maidan Wardak public healthinfo-icon director Dr. Mohammad Salim Asgharkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News that the blast occurred in front of a private university in Maidan Shahr at around 3:30pm.

He said the explosives had been placed in front of the university, which went off as a former Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon commander Ghayasuddin came out of the campus. He said Ghayasuddin was a student and target of the blast.

The blast killed Ghayasuddin and injured six  other students, the official said.

But an eyewitness Rahmat Amarkhel said two students were killed and more than 10 others wounded in the blast.

Police spokesman Haji Mohammad Hofyani said five students had been injured in the explosion. He said no one had been arrested in connection with the incident.

There was no claim of responsibility for the blast.
