10 local policemen killed in Badakhshan clash
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least ten local police personnel have been killed including their commander in a Taliban attack in Juram district northeastern Badakhshan, sources said on Tuesday.
Ahmad Javed Mujaddedi, a member of the Provincial Council, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban insurgents attacked local police check-posts in Pol-e-Kabili area the district late on Monday night.
He said 10 ALP men were killed, including commander Sayed Omar in the attack. He said a number of local police were wounded and some captured by the Taliban as well.
Security sources confirmed the killing of the local police commander and his men, but refrained from talking about it.
Governor Mohammad Zakaria Soda confirmed on his Facebook page that a number of local police forces had been killed and wounded in the clash, but gave no further details.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said 18 security forces, including Sayed Omar and district police chief Aminullah were killed and 24 others injured in the clash in Kibali area of Juram district.
He added six police check-posts and four security men were captured and some weapons and ammunition fell into the hands of Taliban fighters.
