KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Healthinfo-icon (MoPH) on Wednesday announced to close wedding halls to prevent the second wave of Covid-19, by the end of December.

According to MoPH, around 43,924 individuals have so far been infected with Covid-19, 1,645 others died while 35,295 recovered from the pandemic in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

However, the MoPH in September had announced that probably a million people in Afghanistan had been contracted the virus since its outbreak.

Acting public health minister, Mohammad Jawad Usmani told a press conference here that according to registered figures in the country’s laboratories, Covid-19 cases were on the rise in the country.

He assured of preparations made by MoPH to control the second wave of coronavirus in the country, saying a for plan for dealing with the virus was currently under implementation in collaboration of relevant organs in all 34 provinces of the country.

Usmani said emergency committees had been reactivated and were fighting against the second wave of coronavirus.

Based on a decision of the cabinet, wedding halls, which are a major source for spreading the virus, will be closed by the end of December, he said.

He urged people to carefully follow MoPH instructions in controlling the second wave of the pandemic in Afghanistan.

 He also called on people to avoid unnecessary trips to neighboring countries particularly Pakistaninfo-icon and Iran.
